FAQ - Sun Protection, Heat & Travel

Sun-protective clothing are garments made with fabrics that block ultraviolet (UV) radiation from reaching the skin. They are tested and rated with a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor), unlike regular clothing. This makes them suitable for long periods in stron sunlight, including everyday wear in hot climats. Our fabrics are tested against the AATCC regulation which is the most severe one because the reference are tested both wet and dry.

UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and measures how much UV radation a fabric blocks. The higher the UPF rating, the greater the protection. UPF is specifically designed for clothing and differs from SPF which is used for sunscreen.

A fabric rated UPF 50 blocks approximately 98% of UV radiation. This level of protection is considered suitable for prolonged exposure to strong sunlight. It is one of the highest protection levels available in clohting.

Sun-protective dresses and sunscreen serve different purposes and work best togehter. Clothing provides consistent protection without needing reapplication, while sunscreen protects exposed skin. For long days outdoors, UPF clothing reduces reliance on frequent sunscreen use.

Most regular clothes are not tested for UV protection. Thin fabrics, loose weaves, and light colors often allow UV rays to pass through. Fealing covered does not necessarily mean being protected from UV radation.
